LGBTQ+ youth in care resources

We have an ethos of sharing resources and amplifying the work that is being done by others. We have listed resources that we know have been developed to support LGBTQ+ youth in care and care leavers and provide free downloads of the resources developed by LGBTQ+ youth in care. All resources created by us are currently being reviewed so be sure to sign up to our newsletter to receive news and updates.

Supporting LGBTQ+ youth in care during the pandemic

We were asked to write a blog post for the Fostering Network at the start of the covid-19 pandemic. We produced a poster resource with some top tips supporting LGBTQ+ youth in care during lockdown. Read the blog here.

UEA Speak-out research

46 young people who identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or trans took part in the SpeakOut research project about life in the care system. Six young people who worked as co-researchers on the project talk about coming out in care. This film was made as part of the SpeakOut research study. The research briefing can be downloaded below.

They produced a great resource which can be downloaded below.

EPIC - Empowering People in Care, LGBTQ+ Digital Pack

This video is a short explainer about the journey undertaken by some wonderfully talented, care experienced young people, to create materials for young people in care, who are also members of the LGBTQI+ community, and the professionals who work with them.

This short, animated video was created as a resource for professionals and LGBTI+ young people in care. It is a collaboration between EPIC Empowering People In Care and BelonG To, funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. We shared this video for the first time at EPIC’s LGBTI+ Webinar for Care Week 2021. The information and situations depicted in the video reflect the concerns and lived experiences of the members of our LGBTI+ advisory committee for this project, who are all care experienced. We hope that young people and professionals find it informative and useful.

Download these fantastic leaflets to share with young people with tips and advice about coming out in care.

We signpost to other LGBTQ+ organisations that are not care specific below.
